  • Tuition can be fully refunded before the second class. After that, no refund. 

Instructors

Mrs. Xu Chen
  • Special Education Certificated in Intellectual Disabilities (PK - Grade 12)
  • Master and Bachelor’s degree of Vocational Rehabilitation of University of Wisconsin-Stout
  • 18-year experience focusing on teaching 18-21 years old students with disability in Transition Program in US
  • Overall, 24-year Special Education experience in US
    • 3-year in special education school
    • 3-year in special education program in high school
    • 18-year in special education program in community / high school
Mr. Feng
Mr.Feng works as a leading engineer in Bank Of New York Mellon, but has been a parent advocate for Autism over 15 years. He currently serves as Autism Speaks Volunteering Advocacy Ambassador for New York State, Advisory Aboard member for Project SHINE, co-chair CareDesign NY Family and Individual Advisory Aboard, etc.  He has been a enthusiastic advocate to promote inclusion and diversity with all abilities, including Autism. Mr.Feng holds an M.S degree from Indiana State Uni./SUNY-Stony Brook.
Ms. Jing Wang
Jing Wang holds a B.S. and M.S in Occupational Therapy with a concentration in Assistive Technology. Ms. Wang worked as an occupational therapist in hospital inpatient care, nursing homes, schools, and early intervention. Ms. Wang also completed the SIPT 1 and part of the yoga for special kids and applied what she had learned at the sensory integration clinic and schools she worked at. Ms. Wang also completed the SIPT 1 and part of the Yoga for Special Kids certification course. She applied what she had learned at the sensory integration clinic and schools she worked at. 

Day 1

GET TO KNOW EACH OTHER

Overall Course Description:

The Course of “Get to know each other” provides various coordinated sets of activities for students, designed within a results-oriented process, which promotes students’ self-introduction skills and encourages them to create their future resume at their early age.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Able to do self-introduction
  • In oral and written form which includes at least 4 components at least.
  • Create a video that includes self-introduction about themselves, emphasizing what they are good at/ what they can contribute for the community.

Day 2

We are all different but same

--- introduction to Inclusion and Diversity of All Abilities

Overall Course Description:

Start with all people are different, we introduce some people different due to their disabilities. Some of those disabilities are visible and physical, but some invisible and mental or neurological. We will introduce some common disabilities, including ADHD, Autism, Learning Disabilities. We will discuss the characters of those disabilities, especially introduce some extraordinary persons who excel despite of their disabilities. We particularly encourage students with disability can join and self-advocate for themselves. We would like students who doesn’t have disabilities to have their respect and acceptance to who has disabilities, we also want students who has disabilities can see their own value and strength, this is a Win-Win for all of us.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Learn about we are all different, including disabilities, but we are all same.
  • Learn about Autism, ADHD, Down Syndrome, and Learning Disabilities.
  • Introduce some celebrities with or had those disabilities.
  • Develop a conscious on inclusion and acceptance.

Day 3

Please be safe!

Overall Course Description:

In this course, we will introduce students one of the most important life skills: safety! we will discuss how to react under robbery, we will discuss how to react under bullied or pick on situation. We will discuss hate or racist bully against Chinese, we will discuss internet safety, explain children identity theft, explain how sexual grooming works, all of those are to buildup students’ conscious and abilities to their own safety, both online and offline.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Learn about to be safe under robbery.
  • Learn about to be safe under bullied.
  • Learn about some hate or racist bully against Chinese
  • Learn about children identity theft and protect your own personal info.
  • Learn about internet safety, learn how to protect yourself from phishing
  • Learn about sexual grooming

Day 4

Personal Boundaries

Overall Course Description:

To establish a healthy boundary is a good step to build up good interpersonal relationships, and also avoid being abused. This is for both ways: learn not let other people to cross your boundaries, and also learn to hold yourself not cross that line. Personal boundaries will impact anyone’s life in every aspect and in every way. This can be taught from a very young age and will be benefited for lifelong.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Learn about what is personal boundaries
  • Learn about what is a good (healthy) personal boundary
  • Learn about what will come if personal boundaries are crossed or broken.
  • Learn about how to set good boundaries
  • Learn about how to keep away from drugs, gangs and substance abuse.
  • Learn about personal boundaries in relationships.

Day 5

Conflict resolution

Overall Course Description:

Conflicts are part of our everyday life and they can happen in all kinds environments. Resolving conflicts in a positive and effective way is not only essential to our quality of life, but also an important part of building good interpersonal relationships.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Learn about what is conflict
  • Learn about how to stay clam when we facing conflict
  • Learn about how to use I Statement to say what happened, how you feel and what you want when facing conflict
  • Learn How to listen to people who are in conflict with you
  • Learn about how to find a possible solution
  • Learn about what to do if the solution does not work or just can’t find a solution
